REVA Comes to Baby’s Rescue

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – A baby, on the island of St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands, was recently in need of life-saving medical care. Born of a teen-age mother without medical coverage, options were bleak. REVA, Inc., the largest fixed-wing air-ambulance service in the Western Hemisphere and with a base in San Juan, Puerto Rico, recently put its expanding state-of-the-art neonatal care capabilities on the line – and into public service.  Having recently entered negotiations for a partnership agreement with MASA Assist, a Caribbean-based travel assistance company many of whose clients are indigent, REVA approached them to partner and share in the cost of providing air-ambulance service for the infant-at-risk. REVA transported the baby from Roy Schneider Hospital in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, ensuring the child received proper care en route to a hospital in San Juan, Puerto Rico where the baby underwent advanced treatment. REVA’s medical policy calling for patients to be transported on a case-by-case basis played an important role in the decision to transport the baby, and the MASA partnership was instrumental. The airlift took place after the baby’s social worker had tried numerous avenues for air-ambulance service, which wasn’t covered by the baby’s Medicaid. REVA and MASA each invested several thousand dollars of their own resources to provide the baby medical transportation, giving back to the community they support. “The challenge was to get an air ambulance to move the patient to the San Juan medical facility,” said Jacob Bercovici, REVA Chief Marketing Officer. “A benefit to the people of St. Thomas and Roy Schneider Hospital is our willingness to work together in support of these types of cases.  Our collaboration allows for greater possibilities in the region in which we’re more than willing to contribute resources together.”  In this case, one specific baby is alive and well, gurgling its appreciation.
